We collect information in the following ways:

  • Information you provide directly, such as what you give us on applications, organizers, worksheets, documents, and through our website (including name, contact information, Social Security number, dates of birth, income and tax documents, banking information for direct deposit, and other data needed to prepare and file your tax returns).
  • Information related to your use of our website, such as limited technical information (device type, browser, IP address) needed to maintain security and functionality.
  • Information received from third parties as needed to prepare your return, such as payroll providers or financial institutions, only with your authorization or as permitted by law.

Use of your information

We use your information to:

  • Prepare, file, and support your federal, state, and local tax returns and related forms.
  • Communicate with you about your tax matters, appointments, and services, including via email, phone, or mail.
  • Maintain internal records, comply with legal and regulatory obligations, and improve the security and functionality of our services.

We do not sell or rent your personal information or tax return information to anyone for marketing purposes.

Use of Drake tax software and service providers

We use professional tax preparation software provided by Drake Software to prepare and file your tax returns. In limited circumstances, we may need to share portions of a tax return or related data with Drake Software or other service providers to resolve a technical or software issue, to transmit an electronic return, or to provide support services you request. When we do so, those providers are required to protect your information and to use it only for those limited purposes or as required by law.

Advertising and tracking

We do not intentionally use tracking pixels or advertising tools that share your tax return information with Google, Facebook (Meta), or other advertising platforms, and we do not permit these companies to use your tax return information to target you with advertising.

Disclosure of information

We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about our current or former customers to anyone, except as described below or as required or permitted by law.

We may disclose information:

  • To the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), state and local tax authorities, and other government agencies as necessary to file your returns, respond to audits or inquiries, or comply with legal obligations.
  • To Drake Software and other vendors that provide technology, hosting, document storage, or support services for our practice, but only to the extent needed to deliver those services and subject to confidentiality and security obligations.
  • To other parties when you direct us to do so or give your consent, such as your lender, financial advisor, or other professionals.
  • As otherwise required by law, court order, or legal process.

We do not disclose your information to others for their own solicitation or marketing purposes.

Data security

We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those members of our firm who need it to provide services to you. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards designed to protect your information against unauthorized access, use, or disclosure, including secure storage of paper files, password-protected systems, and secure transmission methods for electronic filing and document exchange.

Data retention

We retain your information for as long as necessary to provide services to you, to maintain required business and tax records, and to comply with applicable laws and professional standards. When information is no longer needed, we dispose of it in a manner designed to protect your privacy, such as secure shredding or deletion.

Your choices and rights

You may:

  • Update or correct certain contact information by contacting our office.
  • Request copies of tax returns we have prepared for you, subject to applicable rules and record-keeping requirements.

Federal tax privacy rules and other applicable laws may limit certain rights.

Children's information

Our services are directed to adults and business entities and are not intended for children under 13. We may collect information about dependents as necessary to prepare tax returns, but we do so only from their parents or guardians or as permitted by law.
